Virtual Institute
The recent launch of the Virtual Institute provides us with an added layer of academic accountability and digital infrastructure that allows us the ability to support students in real-time, anytime, anyplace and anywhere. The longitudinal research project in partnership with York University and Wilfrid Laurier will continue to track the academic trajectory of a select cohort of students over the next decade; in addition to providing academic support to struggling students achieving below the provincial standard and those who perennially struggle academically, in particular our most volatile cohort of students; those diagnosed with a learning exceptionality or concurrent disorders, those dealing with an absentee parent or absentee parents, those from the city’s poor and under-resourced communities and for any other variable that would facilitate students’ under-achievement and subsequent disengagement. Students are referred to the program by teachers, administrators, social workers, and community-based agencies.
