Athletic Programs YAAACE will endeavor to develop strong student athletes. With academics in the forefront we believe we will develop well rounded student athletes whom will also have a full understanding of the sport of their choice. They will also obtain a complete knowledge of the rules that govern the development and process of the game. Fair play and sportsmanship will be the cornerstone in the development of these young athletes. Rep-Basketball House League Elite Level Athletic Infastructure (OBA/AAU): Carl James astutely articulated in his book, “Race in Play Understanding the Socio-Cultural Worlds of Student Athletes,” “[F]indings indicate that there are many ways in which sports can be beneficial to students. Participation in sports can, among other things help students to develop self-confidence, discipline and a healthy self-image. It can also inspire high education and occupational aspirations, instill commitment to schooling and foster a sense of racial-identity, ethnic, and/or athletic identity-through which students understand their relationship to others, to school and to the world around them.” For some of our youth, Y.A.A.A.C.E will be a launching pad for a successful basketball career in college or university. Some may even go on to become professional players, based on the fundamentals that we helped them develop. However, for most Y.A.A.A.C.E and its basketball programs are simply a means of building character, developing friendships and having a whole lot of fun. Y.A.A.A.C.E is proud to host 12 OBA teams for the 2007 to 2008 season. |
